Introduction:

Over the last few decades, most students prefer to come to the UK to study. The UK welcomes the foreign students from other countries. In 2003/2004 it had almost 300,000 international students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.[http://www.prospects.ac.uk/cms/ShowPage/Home_page/p!eLaXi]
Perhaps one reason for this is that, the UK universities have the highest standard certificates and qualities .In addition to having more than 50,000 postgraduate courses, students can choose their favourite subjects easily. The majority of the universities in the UK are the oldest in the world although there are also new ones. The vast majority of students would like to study here, because this is a good opportunity for them to improve their English language skills, as English is the language of the technology and for business. Besides, before the international students move to the London, they are a little upset because they do not know anything about anyone, so most of the problems seem difficult for them such as how they can deal with the different culture, or how they can find some where to live and another problems is how they can open a bank account.For these reasons I would like to recognize what problems do international students at the UK usually have when they arrive to Britain .I think this research would be beneficial for international students, as well how they can solve their problems and they do not have any stress in their new life.

Aim:

The purpose of this research contains; first finding out the most important problems that international students can have when they arrive to the London. Secondly, seeing what they can do to solve those problems, and if they are aware of who they need to speak to in order to get help. And a final aim is to see if students feel prepared for their new life in London.

Methods:

The sample size was 31 international students in London Metropolitan University.At first my group and I made some questions about what kind of problems international students have when they come to the UK? Our questionnaire consists of closed and opened questions, in order to collect more data. In fact we tried to prepare easy questions which could be understood by international students, afterwards we asked them about that. Next they replied those questioners and their answers were different from each other.

Findings:

When asked if the international students had had problem when they arrived in London, the first main problem is speaking with foreign people in English. The problem was mentioned by almost a third (30%) respondent. According to our findings, the second main problem is accommodation. The majority of them (20%) cited that, they had problems with accommodation. Regarding opening bank account, obtaining the visa and coping with the food, those problems were not indicated by a large number of international students. (Only one survey has had one of each of those problems)According to the interview almost the respondents (65%) claimed that, they directly go to their families to resolve their problems.The majority of international students who had problems achieving a visa said that, their problems were solved as they go to the British embassy.The age range of the respondents revert to the university, and university’s staff or internet in the university help them to solve their problems about seat.On the other hand many international students (20%) solve their problems by themselves.Almost 80% of the students indicated that, they need a part time job. The main reason to have a job is resolving their financial problems. Also those respondents said that, they could improve their English capability by working.And a few members of them believed that, it helps them to meet new people.

Discussion:

The first graph shows the number of international students who have a problem with accommodation, speaking English, opening bank accounts, food, and obtaining the visa.
According to the first figure, there is a difference in the number of international students’ problems in the UK.
Thirty percent of the respondents said that they had problems with accommodation .This would seem that, the students all over the world can not find suitable accommodation applicable with their money or their ideas. Moreover, all of the respondents can not access the information about accommodation.
A certain number of international students have problems with opening bank accounts. This could indicate that, opens bank accounts and transfers their money do not easy for international students.
A significant number of the respondents have problems with speaking English. Perhaps this means that all of the universities or collages services should change. It should better that, they make a new plan for study. For instance, all of the English courses focus on listening and speaking.
A small number of students have a problem with food. It seems that, each country has a great deal of different kinds of food, and students can not cope with foreign foods.
